Vision
Sometimes it is necessary to reinvent the wheel. The reason are licenses. Usually for commercial projects, Open Source Software under licenses such as the GPL cannot be used. Therefore the vision is to develop libraries and application frameworks for Java 5.0 under LGPL license to allow any (i.e. including commercial) use. Planned contents:
- extensions/helpers to standard java library, e.g. ConstantObject
- libraries and tools for I18N support
- support for file formats (e.g. CSV)
- lightweight application frameworks, e.g. for desktop applications
- tools for JDBC API
- tools for XML processing
Where possible, the libraries/frameworks should reuse other projects with LGPL type licenses, such as:
- JDOM 1.0
- ANTLR (or JavaCC?)
- FreeMarker/FMPP
- ICU4J (?)
- Apache projects
- Spring Framework
Target date for initial release: End 2006
